Tipton County Circuit Court Overview

Tipton County Circuit Court Jurisdiction
Tipton Circuit Court handles civil, criminal, family, probate, small claims, judgment, protective-order, and other trial court matters assigned to the county. The court page says criminal cases are generally heard Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, child support cases Thursday mornings, small claims Friday afternoons, and other cases as the calendar allows.
Hearings are generally open to the public except certain cases involving minors and juveniles. Public observers may enter through the public entrance without checking in at the court office, while parties with a case must arrive on time and check in. Tipton County Circuit Court Staff
Judge Thomas R. Lett has served as judge of Tipton Circuit Court since January 2003. The research states he was born and raised in Tipton, graduated from Tipton High School in 1978, Hanover College in 1982, and Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 1985. Before joining the bench, he served as an attorney for Kempton, Windfall, Tipton Community School Corporation, Tipton County, and as Tipton County Prosecuting Attorney from 1999 to 2002.

Tipton County Court Visit Rules
The Circuit Court FAQ says no cell phones may be used in the courtroom and no food or drink is permitted. Business casual dress is recommended. Juror names are selected at random from voter registration, motor vehicle administration records, and other Indiana records. Juror pay is listed as $17.50 for reporting and $40 per day if sworn.
Children cannot accompany parents to jury selection or courtroom questioning, and the courthouse does not provide child-care facilities.
